Visit or Spend the Night in an Abandoned Forest Temple Cave. Tham Jan Tom (Jan Tom cave) was once occupied by a man named Jan Tom, the date is not known. It was then used as a forest temple until the Wu Wua Wildlife Reserve opened and the temple was moved down the mountain to its present location. Nothing is known of the earlier history of the cave but it is likely that it has been used by man for hundreds of years due to its large size. The cave is about 20 metres deep with a high ceiling and wide opening. During the rainy season, a waterfall runs down the side of the cave and out the mouth. The cave is about a 1 hour easy walk up the mountain from the village. The walk is along a narrow path through the jungle with interesting things to see along the way. Dinner and breakfast and camping equipment can be provided if you want to spend the night. The visit must be guided as it is easy to loose the way and required by the Reserve. The cave is cool during all 3 seasons. |
