Take a boat ride on the Mekong River in a wooden long boat with a local fisherman. You can take a ride of any length you require on the Mekong River. The price is negotiable. See Laos from the river but unfortunately it is not legal for westerners to land here so do not let anyone take you there! However, you may see people fishing, farming the lower banks at low water and children playing along the shore. This a good way to discretely see the locals in their daily lives. There are annual long boat races on the Mekong River in September.
